Bishop Elford's mandate is to give visionary and spiritual leadership to The Free Methodist Church in Canada. Prior to becoming Bishop in 1997, Rev. Elford was 24 years in the pastorate, serving as Senior Pastor of Calgary Free Methodist Church at the time of his appointment. His earlier positions included Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan; Whitby, Ontario; and a church plant in Willowdale, Ontario. While pastoring in Moose Jaw, he doubled as chaplain of Aldersgate College. Bishop Keith serves the international ministry of the Free Methodist Church as President of the Free Methodist World Conference.
He holds a B.A. from Spring Arbor College in Michigan and an M.A. from Canadian Theological Seminary in Regina, Saskatchewan. As a regular columnist in The Free Methodist Herald for many years, the Bishop's column was a natural transition for him. He enjoys writing and has contributed columns to both religious publications and daily newspapers.
When possible, Bishop Keith enjoys downhill skiing, but can be found more frequently hiking recreationally. Keith and his wife, Donna, have two adult children, Rebecca and Greg. Rebecca, who is married to Adam Schnell, serves as Children's Pastor on the staff of Jackson Free Methodist Church in Jackson, Michigan. Greg and his wife Erin live in Mission, BC where he is serving as Lead Pastor at New Heights Free Methodist Church.
