Origins
Charles Tetteh, a native of Ghana, came to the United States to further his education. He started attending Olathe, Kansas, Free Methodist Church. While there, his call to serve God through preaching was renewed, and he desired to bring the Free Methodist witness to his homeland. A partnership contract between Olathe FMC and Free Methodist World Missions has made it possible to undertake the planting of the Free Methodist Church in Ghana. Charles and his wife, Fredericka, returned to their native country in June 1998. Charles is using the facilities at a private elementary school, where he is an administrator, for Free Methodist worship services. An administrative board has been formed. Plans are underway to hold evangelistic crusades and conduct other ministries.
Present Ministries
At present there is one established church and two church plants. Ministry goals are to grow membership to 3000 over the next couple of years. This will necessitate new church plants in recently identified locations, as well as developing substantive outreach from the existing congregations.
Canadian Involvement
Canadian short-term workers, John-Mark and Loreli Cockram from Barrie FMC are serving in Ghana until 2008, working alongside national leaders in several ministry projects.
